C-RAC Statement on the Retirement of SACSCOC President Belle Wheelan

The Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) today issued a statement expressing gratitude to Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) President Belle Wheelan for her service to the Council and the higher education community. Dr. Wheelan will retire as President of the Commission effective July 31, 2025, after 20 years in the role.
Dr. Heather F. Perfetti, President of Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and Chair of C-RAC, said, “Belle’s contributions to higher education, and specifically institutional improvement through accreditation, will be a legacy that stretches beyond her many years of service. C-RAC has benefited from Belle’s dedication, and we all wish her the very best in retirement.”
Dr. Stephen L. Pruitt, who most recently served as President of the Southern Regional Education Board, will assume the role of President and CEO of SACSCOC effective August 1, 2025.
